'81, yes they did have video cameras back then. Very heavy, "portable" and battery powered for at least 30 minutes. Camera attached via cable to a portable powered VCR unit that was another 10 lbs. or more. Tapes were 20 -30 min. I've got a couple of the cameras in my personal museum.

If you grew up in the north you had your own skidpad in any empty large parking lot for as long as you dared before someone called the cops. Used to spend hours going from place to place after the first and second snowfalls.

This is one of the best driver stories I've ever read. What fun!

Often wondered how the amazing F1 drivers would perform in the middle of a 30-car pack running full speed at Daytona or Talladega...

Another spot-on article, Ross! Felt like I was in the 944’s cramped ‘backseat’….When introduced in 1991 to the Cedergreen skid car at Pitaressi Pro drive in Portland I thought it was a blast…now 34 years later I’m more convinced than ever learning at 5-25 mph translates into car control abilities that would take 100’s of drives in a race car. Most of us don’t have that luxury. I know for sure that that training saved me not one, but several potential crashes while working in law enforcement. Our school especially emphasizes putting newer drivers behind the skid car wheel….car control is king! Keep ‘em coming.
