Why racing triggers flow
"The reason why some people love to engage in dangerous activities, such as mountain climbing, car racing, and so on, although they may not be aware of it, is that it forces them into the Now - that intensely alive state that is free of time, free of problems, free of thinking, free of the burden of the personality."
- Eckard Tolle in The Power of Now
I like this, but also treat "flow" differently, it's more about "being here now" for as much of your life as possible, I'm a writer (poet) and yeah, raced cars and other stuff, music, etc, but when you can be in the moment, that's living very large, modern society, particularly in the US, tries to make this as difficult as possible, lots of stuff, lots of adm hassles, entertainment, the usual Huxlian (brave new world) things, so it's a battle. The really nice thing about driving 8/10ths or faster is that you can only be in the moment - and all the skills and experience you have are released into that moment.
